Canon Rick Johnson, executive director of GraceCom, spoke about his vocation and his leadership role as a lay professional at the National Network of Lay Professionals Conference on June 16th in West Cornwall, Connecticut. The Conference drew lay professionals from around the worldwide Anglican Communion.
"The pastoral and sacramental roles of those in holy orders are clear, but the responsibility for the ministry of the Church, in its various dimensions, is of the baptized - all of us. More lay professionals could bring years of real world experience to the leadership of the church." Johnson told the gathering. Considering the worth of the laity, Johnson said, "A strong lay leadership would be a wonderful thing. It would bring a balance of authority and commitment that would greatly benefit us. It would restore a full participation in the Great Commission, and bring holistic unity to the Body of Christ."
